In this guide, we’ll walk you through using Launch X-PROG3 PC Adapter to perform a Bosch computer wipe and clone a VGS4 (4-speed transmission) ECU, step by step.
This method applies to the latest V10.51 software version, which includes VGS4 Bench Mode without removing the ECU shell.
Without correct cloning and personalization, the vehicle may not start or shift properly.
Step 1: Enter ECU Search
Open the X-PROG3 software and enter the ECU search interface.
Select:
Mercedes-Benz
VGS4 (4-Speed Transmission)
In V10.51, VGS4 Bench Mode is supported without removing the ECU shell, making the process faster and safer.
Step 2: Direct Connection Setup
Click “Direct Connection Diagram” to view the wiring layout.
Carefully connect X-PROG3 PC Adapter to the original VGS4 ECU according to the diagram. Double-check pin alignment and power supply stability before proceeding.
Step 3: Read EEPROM Data from Original ECU
Once properly connected:
Click “Read ECU Information”
Click “Read EEPROM Data”
Save the EEPROM file securely. This file contains the original vehicle data required for cloning.
Step 4: Connect the New VGS4 ECU
After successfully reading and saving the original EEPROM:
Disconnect the original ECU.
Connect the replacement (new or used) VGS4 ECU using the same wiring method.
Make sure the connection is stable before writing data.
Step 5: Write Original Data to the New ECU
With the new ECU connected:
Click “Read ECU Information” to confirm communication.
Click “Read EEPROM Data” (optional verification).
Go to “Personalization”.
Write the original car data into the new ECU.
This completes the cloning process.
Final Step: Load the ECU into the Vehicle for Programming
After cloning:
Install the new ECU back into the vehicle.
Perform vehicle programming and adaptation using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
Final programming ensures proper synchronization with the engine control module and immobilizer system.
