User Review:

The Creader 3001 may not have as fancy a screen as other, higher-priced OBD2 units, but it does the job. When the ‘check engine’ light appeared on my dash, I decided that, instead of heading to the mechanic and paying a couple hundred $$$ just to have them tell me what the light was associated with, I ordered the 3001 and found the problem myself, a minor issue with the cooling system that I was able to correct in just a few minutes. And if the problem had been something bigger that I couldn’t handle, at least I would have been in the position of being a more educated consumer when dealing with the mechanic, I’d know what the general problem was beforehand and could call their bluff if they tried to inflate the repairs. Everybody should have one sitting in the glovebox or trunk.

Launch Creader 3001 performs fairly well as advertised. This is my 1st scan tool and I needed it for my own personal use to solve a check engine light issue on my 2010 Malibu that couldn’t be fixed since 2017 and I used it for my powertrain control course at my community college. In the beginning, I was very new to ECM data and had no clue what to expect. Throughout the course, I was taught various types of scan tools and modes they’re capable of. I eventually wanted to invest in my own scan tool so I researched on Youtube and articles. I watched Justin Dow’s review and bought myself one. It’s a pretty neat scan tool that I’ve used so far. Very easy to read and it’s nicely organized how it displays the information. What bugs me about the tool is that when I scroll down too fast physically, the screen lags and doesn’t keep up with the button I command it to do. It would freeze for like 3 seconds then the screen will display what I want. Another con is when I want to erase the code, I follow the instructions but then as I proceed the tool would say “Error, failure to erase code. Make sure the engine is off, ignition on.” (but the engine is already off and ignition is on.) However, once I start the engine up, the check engine light will disappear, which is what I wanted. I don’t know if the scan tool is haveing glitches or sort, I haven’t mentioned to customer service about it. I wanted to get the name of manufacturer codes such as P1174. I couldn’t obtain that type of information. So I don’t know if the scan tool was not supposed to obtain that info or only if a factory level scan tool was able to obtain that info. Thank you to the team who created this helpful piece of diagnostic hardware! With the guidance of obtaining information, I was able to fix my emissions issue on my malibu.
